Krista McCarville's rink from Thunder Bay was near the top of the leader board all week. Heading into the final draw, a win would have given McCarville first place overall. A loss, however, would drop them all the way down to a tie for fourth place.
Ontario would have to face defending champion Jennier Jones in that final draw. Both of these teams are favorites to win the whole event, so a close game was expected. A they delivered exactly that.
Neither team ever led by more than two points during the game. Jennifer Jones was on the right side of the score board in the ninth end, leading 5-3. McCarville then set up the end perfectly, finishing it off with a great shot to score two points and tie everything up heading home.
In the final end, Jennifer Jones was looking to just pick up one. The end started to get a little messy, and on Jennifer Jones' first shot, she chose to play a tricky tap to move her rock into shot position. This left McCarville with a very thin double to remove the shot stone. However, McCarville played the shot a little too thinly, missing it entirely.
This allowed Jones to score one more point and come away with the 6-5 victory. Jones now moves into second place overall and will face the Cinderella team from P.E.I. in the 1 vs. 2 Page Playoff game.
For McCarville, the loss was costly. A win would have put them into first place overall, and a spot in the 1 vs. 2 playoff game. The loss, however, drops them all the way down to a tie with Manitoba for fourth place. The tie-breaker game will take place on Friday at 3pm (EST). The winner will advance to play against Kelly Scott from British Columbia in the 3 vs. 4 playoff game.
