Strong Field at Glynhill

The 2009 edition of the Glynhill Ladies' International is still months away, but excitment is already building for this World Curling Tour ladies event due to the star studded field. The world's best teams will make the trip to Glasgow, Scotland, for this event, which will feature a highly anticipated rematch of last year's World Womens' gold medal game between Canada's Jennifer Jones and China's Bingyu Wang.

With the tournament set to kick off on Janaury 16th, the organizing committee has already announced the teams competing. The field will be one of the strongest ever. In addition to Jones and Wang, teams planning on playing in Glasgow include Switzerland's Mirjam Ott, the very skilled Russian youngsters skipped by Liudmila Privivkova, and Gail Munro, who was Scotland's representative at last year's world championship. Munro's Scottish rink will be in good company, with seven other teams from Scotland planning on attendig the event. Another team to keep an eye out for is Japan's Moe Meguro, who grabbed a lot of attention at last year's world championships, will also be competing. There will be twenty four teams in all, making for a very interesting tournament.

This round-robin style event will dish out a purse of about $18,000 Canadian. In addition to the nice chunk of change, the winner also gets to hoist the famous International Curling Kettle, the kettle shaped trophy. It all gets underway Friday, January 16 at the Braehead Curling Rink in Glasgow.
