Curlers Prepare for 55 Plus GamesAug 20 , 2008It's just under a week until the Canada 55 Plus Games kick off in Dieppe, New Brunswick. The games, which run from August 26th until the 31st, features Canada's best athletes over the age of 55. The curling tournament is bound to be one of the most popular events in the games. Curlers from nine provinces and territories will gather at the Beausejour Curling Club for draw one on August 27th. The Canada 55 Plus Games will actually host six curling tournament next week. Three of the tournaments will be a mens, womens and mixed tournament for curlers aged 55 and up, and the other three are a mens, womens and mixed tournament for curlers 65 and up. The most competitive of all these tournaments is expected to be the mens 55+ tournament, which has eight entrants, the most of any of the curling tournaments. This week of sport will feature your standard sporting events like swimming, track and field, and tennis, but it will also throw in a few events that challenge the mind instead of the mind: Scrabble, with both an English and french division, will be an event at the games. It all gets underway next Tuesday with the opening ceremonies. The curling won't begin until Wednesday, where we'll see three mens games and two womens games in draw one. The PEI men open again the host New Brunswick team, Nova Scotia men take on Manitoba, and the men from Alberta play against Team Saskatchewan. For the women playing in this first draw, it will be the Yukon taking on PEI, and Alberta playing against Saskatchewan.
